6. So after IC you
both attended AUB?
Did you major in
the same subject?
Fouad: We both
attended AUB and
majored in Business
Administration. We
even graduated
together, with a BBA
in 1970 and an MBA
in 1977. If you wish
to know, we became
“an item” during our
graduate work at
AUB and since then
we have always been together.
7. When did you get married?
Fouad: On the 2nd of June, 1979. Thirteen years after meet-
ing each other at IC!!!
8. Are you and your wife still in contact with any of your
former IC classmates? If so, who?
Fouad: IC alumni, not necessarily former IC classmates, are
our dearest community. Most of our best friends are IC
alumni and we are in constant contact with them.
Unfortunately, many are abroad.
Among the former IC classmates that we are either in con-
tact with and/or see from time to time are: Afaf Zurayk,
Awni Mattar, Selim Mehio, Mahmoud Haddad, Marwan
Kronfol, Lama Khayr, Mukbil Hourani, Salim Sa’adeh, Fadi
Captan , Ahmad Barbir, Hadba Kabbani and Ramzi Nassif.
9. Would you wish your children what you yourself lived at
IC?
Fouad: Don’t they say: “The apple does not fall far from the
tree,” and “like father, like son” or “like mother, like daugh-
ter?”
It seems that our eldest daughter,
Abir ’98
, has already fall-
en not very far from her father and mother. She is getting
engaged to an IC classmate,
Mr. Ramzi Oweini ’98
. They
met and became “an item” at IC, went to AUB together, and
intend to work together—almost the same story as her
mother’s and father’s. Our other children,
Jawad ’02
and
Hiba ’04,
have not finished their university education yet,
but I sincerely wish that they follow suit. Then, we shall
have our own ICAA, “The Bawarshi IC Alumni Association!”
Mona: I have a final comment to make. It does not answer
any of your questions, but it’s very important. I attended IC
for one year and became an alumna. Later I married an
alumnus and became the parent of students at IC who are
themselves alumni today. When I was at IC our classroom
was on the AUB campus and so I learnt about the new IC
additions through my kids by following up on their academ-
ics. Before that, I did not even know the names of the build-
ings! Anyway, at one point I served as head of the parents
committee for four years. And a few years ago I became a
member of the Board of Trustees of IC.
“I think investing one year of my high-school education in
IC has paid back big time. I will always be very happy
to serve IC in any way; it is my way of paying back
the place where I met my husband. It took us 13 years
from the time we met till the time we got married, but
I think we both believe that it was worth the wait!”

Dear Alumni and Friends,
Season's Greetings from IC New
York! This year started out with a
bang, and we expect it to contin-
ue to be a very busy one. I will
be in touch with many of you,
both by phone and in person, as I
travel within the US visiting alumni
and friends, old and new. We are so grateful for all of
your support throughout the year.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend our best,
heartfelt holiday wishes to our IC alumni and friends.
May 2005 bring peace
and happiness to you
all!
Warmest wishes of the
Season,
