Johnny Seikaly ‘94
was recently relocated to Jakarta
Indonesia to work on a community-based avian influenza
awareness campaign. Johnny says: “It’s a very nice and wel-
come change from working on an agriculture development
program in Iraq for the past three years. Indonesia is a beau-
tiful country whose people truly love the Lebanese. It’s
amazing the looks I get as people think I’m American from
my spoken English, but once I correct them their smiles and
hearts open up and welcome me into their country and tell
me how sorry they are for the trouble in mine. I did the
obvious and went to a Lebanese restaurant for lunch. It’s the
only authentic one in town. I met the chef, Hussein, who is
from Tyre, Lebanon. I think I am part of the smallest
Lebanese contingent of the diaspora, as we only number
approximately 40 people in Jakarta. Indonesia is a very
friendly, warm and beautiful country. I highly recommend a
visit to see the sights and explore its lush rain forests and
lovely beaches. If in town please be sure to send a note at
jseikaly@hotmail.com.”
Dima Kabbani ‘95
sends her best regards to all her IC
friends! She sends the following message to all the gradu-
ates of 1995: “I am still in contact with many graduates but
I lost track of many others. For those who knew me, here is
an update for you. Yes, I am still the same ‘giggly’ person!
After graduating form IC, I pursued my B.A in Public
Administration at the American University of Beirut. After
graduating from university, my first job dealt with quality
assurance and internal auditing. However, two years later,
I discovered that working for the private sector was not my
passion, and I chose to work for the public sector instead.
Forthe past four years I have been working for the
Australian Embassy in Beirut as the Senior Integrity Officer.
I am also looking forward to obtaining my M.A. in
International Affairs, and to further pursuing my passion for
working in the public sector. I would like to be in contact
with as many IC Alumni friends out there. I am looking for-
ward to receiving your e-mails at:
dima.kabbani@gmail.com.”
