“Friend Raising” Trips continue to
Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait
“Welcome IC” was the message on a special cake for guests
from a beloved alma mater. In their continuing commitment
to maintaining ties with IC alumni, President Dr. Arthur
Charles, Alumni and Development VP Moufid Beydoun ’64,
and IC Trustee Mrs. Mona Bawarshi ’67
traveled to Bahrain in early December.
The emissaries spent three days meeting
with IC alumni and friends, and were
feted at receptions held in their honor.
Mr. Khalil Elias ’59 accompanied them
throughout their stay in Bahrain. Mr.
Qays Zu’bi ’74 and his wife Munira
Fahoum Zu’bi ’74 hosted a dinner with
many alumni included, and Mr. Fathi
Captan ’74 invited the visitors and local
IC alumni from Bahrain and Dhahran
for a brunch. The travelers were pleased
to meet with Sheikh Abdullah Kanoo ’46, and
also visited Dr. Samir Shammaa ’58 at the
Ibn Khaldun School, of which he is headmaster. For a
finale, the trio enjoyed dinner with Hassan Sha’asha’a ’73,
with whom they discussed the alumni chapter in Bahrain.
Dr. Charles and Mr. Beydoun then traveled to Qatar, where
they were received and hosted
by Amin Nassar ’65 during
their two-day stay, meeting
with IC alumni who have relo-
cated there. Next they left for
Kuwait, the final leg of their
journey, where they were host-
ed by Anwar Al Mulla ’63,
who recently visited Dr.
Charles and Mr. Beydoun in
Beirut.
On April 16, 2004, Dr. Arthur Charles and Mr. Moufid
Beydoun had occasion to visit Dubai, where they met with
prominent alumni and friends. With the cooperation of
H.E. Marwan Hamadeh, Minister of Economy and IC grad-
uate of the year 1956, and the assistance of Mr. Elias
Hanna ’61, area representative for Dubai, the dinner
brought together more then 180 IC graduates and friends.
H.E. Mr.
Marwan
Hamadeh
also accom-
panied Dr.
Charles and
Mr. Beydoun
to the UAE
capital of Abu
Dhabi, where
another ban-
quet was
hosted. With
the help of Mr.
Farid Fakhreddine ’85, area representative for Abu Dhabi,
the dinner gathered more then 150 guests, and featured
appearances by Mr. Albert Matta, Chairman of the
Lebanese Business Council, and Mr. Hasan Berrou,
Lebanese Emissary in Abu Dhabi.
Both dinners were a success; they reunited a total of more
then 330 alumni and friends. IC is fortunate to have such
dedicated and supportive alumni as H.E Marwan Hamadeh
and area representatives Elias Hanna ’61 and Farid
Fakhreddine ’85.
