CLASS OF ’50 - ’59
Robert C. Debbas ’55
has just become the grandfather of
a little boy named after him. Robert Debbas is CEO of
the Debbas Group and Vice-President of the Beirut
Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture.
Hermann Kriebel ’56
joined the German Air Force in
1956. He became a fighter pilot, attaining 4000 flying
hours in 23 exciting years. Hermann retired with the rank
of Lieutenant Colonel and now lives in Munich,
Germany.
CLASS OF ’60 - ’69
Farid Iskandar ’60
is an architect, and has been working
for 25 years with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in New
York and London. Farid is married and is blessed with
two daughters, Aline and Elisabeth.
Nabil Watfa ’64
graduated in 1968 from AUB, where he
taught until 1975. Nabil then received his M.S. and Ph.D.
from London University, where he also taught. He then
moved to the US, where he took up further teaching
assignments at John Hopkins University and Rutgers
University in the States. In 1985 he joined the ILO/UN as
a Senior Specialist in Occupational Safety and Health,
and is currently stationed in Beirut.
Shahbaz Behnam ’68
is working with the International
Olympics Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Adnan Hussein Doughan ’69
is working as Property
Management Manager at Gulf Bank in Dubai. His wife is
an Arabic teacher at Berlitz, Beirut. They are the proud
parents of Hussein, who is concluding his Bachelor’s
degree in Business at AUB, Jana, an AUB freshman, and
Luma, a grade 9 student at LPS.
CLASS OF ’70 - ’79
Hagop Bessos ’70
obtained his B.S. and M.S. from AUB,
followed by his Doctorate in Immunology from the
Medical School University of Edinburgh in 1980. Today
he is Principal Research Scientist in Immunohaematology
at the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service. He is
married to Kathleen Duffy and they are blessed with two
children: Maureen-Eliz aged 23 and Stephen-Bessillios
aged 19.
Hani Haykal ’71
is Chief of Neuroradiology at the
Methodist Hospital in Houston. Hani is married to Amal
El Hassan and they are blessed with four children: Rani
(21), Nadine (19), Mira (16), and Tarek (6).
Ziad Dabbous ’72
is currently working as General
Manager in National Telecommunications Co. Ltd (Natel)
in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Joumana Kawar ’72
is Executive Director in the Khalid
Shoman Foundation “Darat Al Funun.”
Sarmad Rihani ’72
is Principal and CEO of BEI Structural
Engineers, Inc., as well as part owner of an engineering
firm and a home care agency in the United States.
Sarmad has been living in the US since his graduation
from IC. Married to Ina Hand, he has three children:
Cedar, Paul, and Michael.
Raymond Bardawil ’74
is the owner of "KITMO" for wood
flooring (parquet) and kitchen cabinets. He is married
and has two children, Christelle and Carl.
Mohamad Halwani ’75
graduated from AUB with an
Electrical Engineering degree. Mohamad worked in the
Gulf with CCC, and then moved back to Lebanon where
he established a company named HALWANI TRANSTEC,
specializing in industrial refrigeration. Mohamad is the
proud father of Karim and Ramzi.
Rashad Barakay ’76
manages and owns a building mate-
rial/accessories company in Damascus, Syria.
Salim Dallal ’76
graduated with a BS in Computer
Science from LAU in 2002. He is currently finishing his
military service, and plans on getting married within the
next two years.
Naseem Haffar ’76
was recently promoted to Managing
Director, High Yield Sales and Trading, at JP Morgan
Chase and Co. Naseem is married to Randa, who is Vice
President at the International Private Banking group at
Citibank. They live in New York City.
Marwan Takieddine ’76
has been in a private group prac-
tice as a member of the Hypertension and Renal Institute
of Nevada, Las Vegas, since 1994. In November 2002 he
was awarded the Medical Leader of the Year prize by the
National Kidney Foundation, Southern Nevada Chapter.
Salim Balaa ’78
is Project Manager for Customs - Ministry
of Finance - in the UNDP, Beirut.
Ketty M. Sarouphim ’79
graduated in 1983 with honors
in Communication Arts, with an emphasis on journalism,
from BUC. She then enrolled at AUB in 1987 as an M.A.
student in Educational Psychology. She completed her
Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at the University of
Arizona in Tucson. In October 1997 she was offered the
job of Assistant Professor of Psychology and Education at
LAU and then was promoted to the rank of Associate
