Issa Kawar ‘69
immigrated to Canada in May of 2000. He
married May Kawar in 1986 and they were blessed with
four children (two boys and two girls) who are now 18,16
and14. Issa and his family became Canadian citizens and
are enjoying the benefits that the country is offering. Issa
graduated as a mechanical engineer from AUB in 1973. He
is currently working with
The Mitchell Partnership TMP
, one
of the best mechanical engineering consulting firms in
Canada. Issa and his family are living in Toronto, 25
Rameau drive, Ontario M2H 1T2. Issa is meeting many IC
graduates in Toronto and he is interested in getting in touch
with
Riyad Darwish ‘66
.
CLASS OF ‘70 – ‘79
Hassan Saghir ‘71
, has been in Montreal, Canada since
1987. He completed his post-graduate education in
Montreal and is a registered engineer in Quebec and prac-
tices environmental engineering there.
Nawaf Salam ‘71
was appointed as Ambassador to Lebanon
in the United Nations, in New York, last summer.
Congratulations from all the IC family to Dr. Salam and we
wish him all the luck in his future endeavors. The IC
Newsletter will publish an article about Dr. Salam in the
near future. The son of
Dr. Salam, Abdallah ’05,
received
the Harvard College Scholar award for 2005-2006.
Majd Patou Fathallah ‘74
is an artist. Her sculpture art work

Samer Faraj ‘76
currently lives in the Washington DC area
with his wife Lisa and his two children, Kareem and
Rasheed. He is an Associate Professor of IS at the
University of Maryland. During the year 2005-2006, Samer
served as Senior Fulbright scholar at the Olayan School of
AUB. Samer and his family are happy that their children
have had the chance to study at IC elementary school dur-
ing their stay in Lebanon (year 2005-2006). Samer relived
his nostalgic days at IC when he used to come to campus to
every day to bring his children to school. Samer and his
family had to be evacuated in July, but as he says: “We will
be back! Would love to hear from other IC-ers.”
Lama Simpson Dajani ‘78
is living in Washington DC,
U.S.A. Lama is the Director of the Arab American Cultural
Foundation. Lama has one boy named Ramy.
Othman Domiati ‘78
now lives in Monaco. He sends his
best to all his colleagues.
Jamal Itani ‘78
left his position as the President of “Council
for Development & Reconstruction” in Lebanon in
December 2005, and has since joined Abdali Investment &
Development Company, a private-public partnership, in
Amman Jordan. As CEO of the company, Jamal is now
responsible for the development of a new downtown for
Amman on a piece of land of 550,000 square meters and a
developed area of approximately 2.25 million square
meters. The Lebanese experience of developing Solidere is
now putting Amman on the map as one of the most modern
and advanced cities in the region. For the first time in the
Middle East, this downtown area will be serviced with state-
of-the-art infrastructure, ranging from fiber optics for com-
munication and a district cooling and heating system pro-
viding capital savings for developers, minimizing energy
consumption and above all creating an environmentally
friendly atmosphere. All of the infrastructure works have
been completed and the construction of the buildings will
be done in three phases, starting in the fourth quarter of
2009. The cost of the project will be around $2.5 billion.

Hassan Shaker ‘78
is still running the Shaker Group of
Companies in Saudi Arabia as CEO. Hassan would like to
announce the latest news about the company: “I have
signed a JV between LG-Korea and Shaker Co to do an air-
conditioning factory in Riyadh, starting its opetation in the
third quarter of 2007 with a capacity of 200K units per year
for the first year, going up to 800 K units in 2010.” Hassan
and his wife Lina are blessed with three children, Nadine,
Dalia and Karim. Hassan is happy that Dalia and Karim
joined IC and are receiving the same quality education that
he has received.
