CLASS OF ’30 - ’39
Shakib Omari ’34
who graduated with high distinction from
IC at that time, had a very sucessful career as an Engineer
and was the president of the order of Engineers in Syria for
several years. He is now retired and living in Damascus.
Farid Haddad ’39
has edited a new book entitled Al-Jadid fi
Al-Tibb [“The Gleanings”] by Dr Sami Haddad. The book
has just been published in Arabic and is obtainable from the
Jiha Library on Bliss Street, facing IC.
CLASS OF ’50 - ’59
Mahmoud Abdul Baki ’56
is the Vice President of
Operations at CCC, covering the regions of Lebanon and
Africa. On September 26, 2004, Mahmoud hosted a large
group of IC alumni and other friends over lunch at his beau-
tiful house in the mountains.
Sami Sanjad ’57
graduated from the AUB Medical School in
1965. After six years of postdoctoral work in both Lebanon
and the US, Sami joined the AUB faculty as Assistant
Professor of Pediatrics in 1971. In 1976 Sami left for
Houston and worked as a full-time faculty member at Baylor
College of Medicine in the department of Pediatrics/
Nephrology. Sami and wife Maha Abul Hosn moved to
Saudi Arabia in 1986, where Sami assumed a position at the
King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center. In
September 1998, Sami rejoined AUB as an Associate and
later full Professor of Pediatrics/Nephrology, and in February
2000 he became Assistant Dean for the Faculty in charge of
student affairs.
Shahrokh Alebooyeh ’58
left IC in 1958, completing high-
school in England. He obtained his PhD in Political Science
from Queen Mary College in 1971. Shahrokh joined the
Foreign Ministry of Iran during the reign of the late Shah,
becoming the youngest Iranian ambassador. Shahrokh was
summoned home after the 1979 revolution in Iran and sent
to prison. Afterwards he joined the Royal Danish Embassy in
Tehran as Commercial Counselor in 1989, and is still work-
ing there today. Shahrokh is married and has two sons and
one daughter.
CLASS OF ’60 - ’69
Anwar Bikhazi ’60
received the “Award for Best Research”
at the Scientific Meeting of the American College of
Physicians, –North Carolina chapter, on February 13, 2004.
This was for a presentation based on research he conducted
at AUB for his Master of Science degree thesis. Anwar and
his wife Samia Habib Hourani reside in Lebanon.
Marwan Ghandour ’63
is Chairman and General Manager
of Audi Saradar Investment Bank. Marwan is married to
Hadia el Debs and they are blessed with three children, two
of them are enrolled at the IC Pre-School. In its meeting in
Beirut this October, the Board of Trustees voted to appoint
Mr. Ghandour to membership on the Board.
Nabil Watfa ’64
graduated with a BS in Environmental
Health from AUB and continued his studies at the London
School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where he
obtained both an MS and a PhD in Occupational Hygiene.
He then worked as a Senior Scientist at Johns Hopkins
University and as a University Hygienist at Rutgers
University. Later, as Safety Specialist with the International
Labor Office (ILO), based in Geneva, Nabil was sent to
Bangkok as Regional Advisor for Asia and the Pacific. His
passionate affinity for Lebanon, however, made him transfer
to the ILO Regional Office in Beirut in 1998 as Director and
Coordinator of Activities for a group of specialists in the
field of labor. Nabil is married and has three children.
Issam Habbal ’65
commutes between Beirut and Charlotte,
North Carolina, where he is working as a real estate developer.
Samir Moujaes ’67
is Professor of Mechanical Engineering
at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Dr. Moujaes teaches
and does research in the general area of Thermal Sciences,
and is now working on several research projects funded by
the U.S. Department of Energy, such as indoor thermal com-
fort/air quality issues, thermo chemical production of hydro-
gen using solar/nuclear energy, and testing a zero-demand
energy house in Las Vegas using photovoltaic cells and sev-
eral energy conservation technologies. He hopes to hear
from 1967 graduates of the IC English section who might be
in the general area of the southwestern United States.
Mohamad Al Dugaither ’68
is General Manager of SABIC
International, which recently celebrated the inauguration of
its office in Beirut. The inauguration ceremony took place at
Sursok Palace on September 30, 2004.
Gaby Kassis ’68
has been appointed General Manger of
Banque Audi in Amman, Jordan. Under his leadership,
Banque Audi has started dynamically, opening six branches
this year and planning for four more next year.
Ayman Safadi ’69
has been working as a dentist at the GNP
hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, since October 1987.
However, he still commutes regularly between Saudi Arabia
and Lebanon, keeping his dental clinic in Beirut open. He
hopes to return to Lebanon, his homeland, soon. His eldest
son Rani will apply to the Faculty of Engineering at AUB
next year, while Rani’s brother Nader (14) and sister Haya
(7) will hopefully be joining IC next year.
