George Barbour ’77
enrolled in AUB after his graduation
from IC, receiving his BSc in Agricultural Science and MSc
in Poultry Science. He then went to Ohio State University
for postgraduate studies, earning a PhD in Poultry Nutrition in
1989. Between 1989 and 1995, he held postdoctoral
research positions at several institutions in Canada and the
US. In 1995 George returned to Lebanon, and, in addition to
teaching at universities, became a Research Scientist at the
Lebanese Agriculture Research Institute in Tel Amara, in the
Biqa‘. George lives in Zahle and often conducts research in
collaboration with professors at AUB and LAU.
Boudi Ghandour ’77
left Dubai and moved to Riyadh,
Saudi Arabia. He joined Carrefour Hypermarket, the second
largest Hypermarket group in the world, over a year ago as
Head Buyer and Merchandise Manager for the Electronics
Department. Today, Boudi is Carrefour General Manager of
Marketing & Sourcing for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. His
family still resides in Dubai.
Haytham Hajjar ’77
is the owner and manager of Health
Management Associates, a consulting entity which provides
support through consultation to health and medical firms as
well as programs.
Laila Awar’78
and her husband, orthodontist Dr. Akram
Shouhayib, live in Washington, D.C. with their two children:
Nabil and Janan. Laila is finishing her Master’s degree and will
shortly begin work as an art therapist, dealing with depres-
sion, anxiety, and various personality disorders in children.
Zahi Saba ’78
received his BE in Civil Engineering from AUB
in 1982 and has been working with CCC ever since. He is
now based in Muscat, Oman, where he is head of the Civil
Estimation Department in addition to managing other projects.
Adib Salem ’78
is married to Mylene Tewtel, with whom he
has two daughters. Adib is Director of a management con-
sulting office in Dubai, but travels to Lebanon regularly.
Since leaving IC, Adib received a BA in Economics from
AUB, and then completed an MA in Economics from
Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He worked
with a major US bank in New York, moved into private
banking in Paris, and was a consultant at the prime minis-
ter’s office in Beirut from 1994-1996. In 1998, Adib earned
an Master’s in Public Administration from the Kennedy
School of Government, Harvard, and has been consulting
for businesses since then in the US, Middle East, and India.
CLASS OF ’80 - ’89
Mohamed (Mike) Ahmar ’80
is head of International
Computer Graphics (ICG), ranked third in the world in the
distribution of PC material. The company has seven different
branches in the US, and is based in California, where
Mohamed now resides with his wife Hania and their children
Jina (7), Hassan (6), and Jade (3).
Haytham Kamel ’80
is Vice President and General Manager
for Emirates Computers in Dubai. He is also General
Manager of Tejari in Lebanon and Syria. Tejari.com is the
first Business-to-Business (B to B) electronic marketplace for
the Middle East and Africa, created and owned by the gov-
ernment of the emirate of Dubai. This online exchange,
which will fascilitate the buying and selling of goods and
services over the Internet between organizations from both
public and private sectors, also enables real-time collabora-
tion between suppliers and customer while extending their
market reach on a regional and global basis.
Isam Kaysi ’80
has returned to his position as Professor in
the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at AUB after
spending two years as a faculty member at the University of
Toronto in Canada. His oldest son Anas (Danny) has also
joined AUB this year—as a freshman!
Ghassan Osman ’80
is married to
Lana Khartabil ’90
; the
happy couple is living in Beirut and has two kids, Tamara
(9) and Hisham (6), both of whom attend IC.
Samir Boubess ’81
and
Rana Bizri Boubess ’99
were
blessed with a new baby boy, Karim, on January 15, 2004.
Karim is their second child, Nour (2) their first.
Ousama Fansa ’81
graduated from AUB with a BE in Civil
Engineering in 1986. Today, he is Managing Director of
Arabian Roots, an industrial and marketing network operating
in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt. He is married
and is blessed with two daughters: Yasmin (14) and Lina (11).
Hala A. Madi-Shalhoub ’81
, her husband Dr. Hadi
Shalhoub , and their children Assad-Lawrence, Jad-
Alexander, and Mayssa-Rae are pleased to announce that
they are doing well despite the devastation caused by the
recent hurricanes in Florida. Even though Vero Beach,
where they live, sustained two direct hits, they thank God
that they are all in good health and great spirits.
Omar Wehbe ’81
lived in London from 1975 to 1998. He
then moved back to Beirut for one year and now lives with
his wife Angeline and two sons (ages 5 & 2 yrs) in Dubai,
where Omar is MD of Wehbe Insurance Services
(www.wisuae.com). Omar is also Director of Wehbe
Insurance Services in Lebanon and Egypt.
After graduating from IC,
Wael Hariz ’82
acquired his BSc
in Chemistry from AUB, traveling to Sweden for his Master’s
in Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics at Linkoeping
Institute of Technology. In 1997, He married
Rania
Tajeddine ’85
. Wael and Rania are blessed with two daugh-
ters: Maya (4) and Lena (2). The Hariz family now lives in
Stockholm, Sweden, where Wael works at Ericsson AB.
