Commencement 2005 and the Inauguration of
the Basil Fuleihan Award
On June 17, 2005, at 6:30
p.m., IC graduates, clad in
green gowns and bearing
expectant smiles, gathered
in the AUB Assembly Hall.
With numerous proud par-
ents, friends, and teachers
assembled before them,
our graduates marched up
to receive their diplomas.
The ceremony began with students singing the National
Anthem, after which Dr. Charles delivered the invocation,
followed by the opening address. He then introduced Mr.
Abdel-Latif Mneimneh, chairman of the Physics
Department, who offered the faculty address, followed by
Miss Lana Koleilat, who gave the Graduates’ Address. As
for the Commencement Address, it was delivered by Dr.
Nada Moghaizel Nasr, Dean of the Faculty of Educational
Services at Université St-Joseph.
Special student awards were distributed by Mrs. Mishka
Mourani, who presented:
- The IC Scholars’ Award to Randa Akel (1st, English
Program) and Khairat Al Habbal (2nd, English Program), to
Dany Matar (1st, French Program) and Rami Ofeiche (2nd,
French Program), and to Dana El Zein (1st, College
Preparatory Program).
- The Stephen Penrose Award to Randa Akel (English
Program) and Dana El Zein (French Program).
- The MacLachlan Award to Mohamed El-Dana.
This year’s commencement ceremony also witnessed the
inauguration of the Basil Fuleihan Award, given to Khairat
Habbal by Dr. Fuleihan’s widow, Mrs. Yasma Fuleihan. In
memory of her
beloved hus-
band, and our
dear alumnus, all
stood for a
moment of
silence.
