IC Cougars Place 1st and 2nd in
Amman, Jordan.
The Amman Baccalaureate School in Jordan held a soccer tour-
nament November 9-12, 2005, and after three days of exciting
play and close finishes, IC emerged with results of which we can
all be proud.
For the second consecutive
year of international competi-
tion, our IC Girls’ Soccer
Team found itself facing ACS
Beirut in the final game. No
fear: our IC girls defeated
them by a score of 1-0 to take
home 1st place! When asked,
Coach Karen Tonnos said the
game was a heart-pounding
display of courage and consistency. Going into the second
half of play, IC was up 1-0. And though the action went back
and forth, with numerous chances for victory for both sides,
the climax came when ACS was awarded a penalty kick with
only minutes left in the game. In the end, even though ACS
managed two shots at the net, the outstanding play of our
goalie saw her ward off both attempts, thereby ensuring the
final win for IC. Like the boys, the girls now have a 1st and
2nd placing after two consecutive years of international com-
petition. We must congratulate our Varsity Soccer Teams for
their exceptional play, and coaches Karen Tonnos and Rabih
Idriss for preparing them to succeed!

opponents off to
reach the final
match on Saturday.
In what proved to
be an outstanding
performance by the
IC in the champi-
onship game
Soccer Team, they
were nevertheless bested by the Amman Islamic School with a
score of 2-0. Still, when arriving back in Beirut smartly dressed in
their suits and ties, and then performing the always well-appreci-
ated IC chant to hundreds of onlookers, it was clear that our
boys had come away with a sense of true accomplishment. And
rightfully so, since after its second consecutive year of attending
international tournaments, the IC Varsity Boys’ Soccer Team has
come home with a 1st and 2nd place. This in itself shows the
consistency of play and the quality of our coaching here at IC.
Bravo, boys!
GO COUGARS!
IC Cougars Win 33
Swimming Medals, Set New
Meet Record
For the second year in a row, the International College
Swim Team was invited to participate in the Cairo
American College Swim Meet Invitational, held
November 10-13, 2005, in the Egyptian capital.
Eighteen of our best swimmers committed themselves to
represent the growing IC swim program. And with 34
medals (15 gold – the same as last year, 10 silver & 9
bronze) and a new CAC swim meet record by Nibal
Yamout in the girl’s 50m breaststroke (11-12 year olds),
and another Lebanese record broken by Jamil Yamout
in the 100m individual medley, there remains little
doubt that IC was ready for the challenge. What made
this accomplishment even greater was the fact that IC
competed against over one hundred swimmers from
opposing teams. In addition, the CAC housing parents
once again voiced that they enjoyed having IC students
stay with them. In fact, some of our athletes have
already made plans with their CAC hosts to have them
here for a few days of skiing. In short, the trip was once
again a great success.
Congratulations are due to coaches Jaana Lundholm,
Osman Osman, and Head Coach Adel Yamout for
preparing our athletes to succeed. Also, special con-
gratulations must certainly be extended to our young
swimmers (7-8 year-old category), who between them
won 7 medals for IC. Finally, it must be recognized that
Jamil Yamout won 7-gold while his younger sister,
Nibal Yamout, swam away with 6-gold. In all,
International College swimmers have now solidified
themselves as strong competitors in international swim-
ming competition.
