Raëf Labaki ’60: In The Words of
Mrs. Mishka Mourani
Raef Labaki started out as a student at IC. After he obtained a
BA & MA in History from AUB he came back to his alma
mater as a teacher in 1966. He assumed the responsibilities of
chairman of social studies for many years. His coordination
responsibilities including not only the secondary school but the
middle school as well. Raef has been an outstanding support in
the secondary school. He has chaperoned students on the
yearly social studies trips that have become a secondary school
tradition. He has organized countless social studies exhibitions
and has succeeded in making history come alive for his stu-
dents. In addition to chairing the social studies department, for
the past seven years he has been responsible for the graduating
students and has done an exceptional job in maintaining order
on the third floor while remaining on excellent terms with his
students, who love him. On many occasions I have met IC
alumni whose first question has always been about Mr Labaki.
Over the past four decades, Raef Labaki has earned the respect
and affection of both his students and his peers for his cheerful
attitude,
his vast culture, and his devotion to IC. There is
no doubt about it, Raef Labaki is an IC legend.
