Celebrating the 50th Anniversary
After 50 years, the class of 1956 reunited again at a dinner party at the Martin House on Friday, July 7, 2006, in the pres-
ence of Vice President for Alumni and
Development
Moufid Beydoun ‘64
and several retired teachers. Many
attendees came from aboard to enjoy
this special and unique event. Board
member emeritus
Elie Sehnaoui ‘56
gave a nice speech on the occasion.
During the dinner, a painting offered
by
Stelio Scamanga ‘56
was auc-
tioned. Bandar Shawwaf, the son of
Dr. Saud Shawwaf ’56
, who was
accompanying his father, won the
auction. The proceeds will support the
IC’s Scholarship Fund. The evening
was crowned with a jubilee cake. A
special pin was distributed as souvenir
for the occasion, as well as copies of
the IC 1956 Torch.
Points of Elie Sehnaoui’s speech:
“50 years since we graduated. What a joy to be together for this half-century reunion with many recollections and fond
souvenirs. As Trustee of IC since 1972, and Emeritus since 1994, I am still in touch with many administrators and I am
following with enthusiasm all IC developments.
“In our time, there was the English Section or Prep, and the French Section; and we used to compete in many areas such
as sports, scouting and grades, in as far as the Baccalaureate results were concerned. Today, IC is more united as one
school.
“The progress in 50 years is from 1,000 to 3,400 students, with around 1750 girls, whereas we had only two to three
girls in our days, and only in the “Classes
Terminales”! We were all fighting for
their attention.
“I wish to mention a few names of
administrators and teachers whom
I recall fondly and will certainly ring
a bell: Leslie Leavitt, Archie Crawford,
Roger Valla, Doubine, Seylaz, Habachi,
Maurice Dumont, Bernard Genestlé,
Ribet, Suleiman, Attar, Kazan, Anavy,
Tabbal, Nasrallah, Courson, Monah
Khoury, MDs Antoine and Robert Karam,
Gebran and Antoine ElKhoury Massoud,
Philippe Nasrallah, Kamel Abdallah,
Philip Semaan, Dufour, Dammous,
Chahine, Alamuddin, Bikhazi and
Traboulsy, etc…”
